BANDS In starting my musical career, I played bass and wrote and arranged songs. Basically because they said I was too heavy handed for guitar! Apex: My very first band became very popular in our region. We were very lucky and had a host of people pulling for us. Thus doors opened for us seldom seen in one's first attempt. Fm 99( the local rock station) played our demo as well as many college stations on the east coast. The title track " Hiding In the Shadows" was greatly accepted. The live performances were outrageous! Often drawing the crowds from other artist when playing large festivals. Thus newspaper and radio personnel often did articles and spots on us. GANGWAY
Was a great studio band that reached radio on Z Rock from the east and west coast with a unfinished demo.( Crazy huh). This band was designed for a larger opportunity and courted by management and promoters. LIKKITY SPLIT
This band was the best live band I have ever played with. The band was a blues; funky, rock outfit that was a blast to experience. In a short period of time, we achieved opportunities such as Publishing and marketing. We had a very talented band which all of us have materialized in our separate careers. SOLO PROJECTS
Time Doesn't Wait- My first solo attempt. I gathered a very talented collection of musicians and recorded material which I had written. I had a excellent singer that completed the sound. This project gave me international attention and taught me many lessons in the business of music. FULL CIRCLE
The first attempt at recording guitar tracks. It was a truly amazing project that began getting attention from indie labels. Unfortunately, it did not see completion. HANGMAN'S JURY
Kinda a extension of the Likitty Split band, was a side project that began to catch on. I believe that this actually would have been something special given more opportunity.
SECOND CHANCE
In 2001-2002 I compiled a few songs from tapes and cds and put 5 songs together. I did my first lead vocal on this one by adding a vocal to " In The Dark". I just wanted to test the waters. I got a ton of return emails and encouragement. Even Windup( Creed 's etc etc label) gave me some great positive yet constructive feedback. To be honest, sending out songs over a long time frame and from very raw sources was a gamble. I made a lot of email friends in the music world. That alone was worth it. CLARITY- 2003
This cd I wrote and recorded all the instruments and vocals (other than the keys on Soul Mates). This Cd was written for my family and my faith in a higher source. Thus all the tracks are real and as Eric Worden (formerly of the radio station the Coast) says, full of drama. LOL ! { which means I'll probably have to edit the tracks to conform to radio length} I really enjoyed this recording. I poured everything I could into it. It is Heavy- Feelin Black Inside shows this. Then it's elite and pretty as indicated on the acoustic track Soul Mates. It has 5 songs that truly are different and show a diversity in musical back grounds. Today Clarity is reaching most of America via internet radio. And so far doing well. I also have been shopped by IRL Music in France before 20,000 people including label and Management Representatives. Also, I have been able to contact a host of Indie Labels and quite a few are showing interest. I have been able to receive radio airplay overseas directly due to my best friend in Turkey. March 26 2004 I will attend The Fashion Rock Music Festival where I will perform " Briana" dedicated to my children. And to the Childrens hospital of the King's Daughters. I will perform to attendance such as MTV; VH1; Movie and Tv networks, labels etc. As of today I am working with a drummer that is also very capable at recording. We are recording demos of new music as we speak. I assure you it is a blast. Right now I am stretching out my guitar parts. But I will certainly include many other styles as we go. Stay posted to www.rickybyrum.com for updates. Thanks to all upstairs and here over the years in making my music a reality. peace
In A Twinkling Of An Eye-
After Clarity, I wanted to have some fun and go into a heavier direction. I met Tom Gartman of Miracle Studios, who had a analog home studio.
We became friends and decided to do a session. So with a couple sessions after work we put together a nice home demo. It was really tiring and everything had to be done first take.
Great training skills! LOL I believe we did 90% in the first two 4 hour sessions after I got off work. Even though it was tiring, the first track “Run” was placed on some rotation on WNORFM99's Homegrown show. It also was played on some college stations in the Nation.
Doorway Of Tomorrow-
After In A Twinkling Of an Eye, I had already met Rob Blankenship. We had recorded a couple songs At his home. (Speak life, and Reply) and became friends. So we decided to take some of our jam sessions and make a home demo as well. Out of it came a big favorite - I Desire You ( my song of Solomon). It also has been sold to people from many countries. It was also played on many college stations around the Country. So at that point I released two demos in the same year.
Only You and edited It Won't Be Long Now-
I had an offer to establish main stream radio. So they chose the song It won't be long now from Clarity. I took it to my buddy Blake Wallace of Indigo Recordings. ( Pro Quality Facility). We edited it a tad to conform to radio length. So I sent it out to 600 mainstream stations In the U.S.; Europe and Canada. While we had Blake's attention, I gave him Only You. Rob and I had recorded a song I had been hearing in my head. He took the time to work with our mix and out came Only You. This was a gift to my fans and put out via the internet. Many feel it was my best effort at that time.
Instrumentals-
Blake Wallace of Indigo Recordings and I had a body of work with no vocals from a previous session. I decided to release them as Instrumentals to TV and Film opportunities. I feel they have great potential in that market. Including game sound tracks etc. Awesome players were gathered to participate. I also have clips of those on my main page. I may decide to release these in a different way next year.
Time To Rise-
Time To Rise is very special to me for many reasons. I had signed to American Classic Recordings to re release Clarity with them. I also wanted to put out a special cd with them in 2008.
We both have a strong vision of our beliefs and lifting others in need. Especially the Military. So first and foremost I dedicate it to Jeff Preziotti. Jeff was a dear friend. Also a former band member years ago in Gangway. Jeff was full of life; laughter and music. Jeff and I had regained Communication recently and he even gave me some of our long lost songs on cd.( he pulled them from various recordings ) We had even jammed on occasion. Jeff became ill and succumbed to brain tumors on January 8, 2008. I had been laid up to neck fusion and Rotatory surgeries on Nov. 26, and Dec 17, 2008. Jeff's funeral forever changed my life. Jeff's life was a inspiration to live; love and inspire others to do good. Jeff's life was displayed on a huge screen while his drums sat silently, yet shinning out front. He reached out in kindness to everyone he ever met including me on many occasions. I decided to complete the body of work I was working on and dedicate it to Jeff and Patti Preziotti. Jeff's wife. So I called Blake Wallace and told him my plans. Thank the Lord Blake made time and We both busted our humps to get this completed. However, I also dedicate this to all those who give of themselves to the betterment of others. Our Military; our Police Force, our Fire and Rescue Teams, our Teachers, our Missionaries, The Global Out Reach Teams, our Church Communities, the list goes on...
Lastly, to everyone trying to overcome the obstacles that hold them down.
It's TIME TO RISE. You can do it ! So as we prepare to release Time To Rise, let us see where the Good Lord takes it.
To be continued...
